The Australian Kendo Renmei (AKR) is the official representative body authorised by the International Kendo Federation (FIK). The AKR is responsible for kendo as well as Seitei Iaido and Seitei Jodo activities in Australia.

The Australian Kendo Championships (AKC) is the official national championships for kendo and is held in a different city each year.

2011 sees the return of the AKC to Queensland where it is hosted by the Queensland Kendo Renmei Incorporated (QKR).

The Taikai (competition) is comprised of both team and individual events for both kyu and dan levels as well as a seminar and grading opportunity. The event list includes the following:
